The Boca Raton Executive Club Welcomes Lynn University's President, Dr. Kevin M. Ross as the November 7th Keynote Speaker!

You joined the rest of the viewing world as Barack Obama and Mitt Romney dueled in the final and crucial Presidential Debate right here at Lynn University in Boca Raton. Find out how this 50 year old institution of higher learning earned the privilege to host this prestigious event. Join Dr. Kevin M. Ross, President of Lynn University, as he shares his unique insight into the debate and the growth of the university during our next meeting of the Boca Raton Executive Club...

Dr. Kevin M. Ross became the fifth president of Lynn University on July 1, 2006. He succeeded his father, Dr. Donald E. Ross who founded Wilmington College, Wilmington, Del. in 1967 before becoming Lynn's president at the age of 32. During his 35 years as president, he led the school from a two-year Catholic women's college on the brink of bankruptcy to a thriving university with a distinct international character.

Like his father, Dr. Kevin Ross took leadership of the university at a young age: 33, having held numerous administrative positions in educational institutions, including Lynn. Early in his career, Dr. Ross served as admissions officer and associate director of admissions at two independent schools, The Hill School (Pottstown, Pa.) and Avon Old Farms School (Avon, Conn.). His first higher education post was assistant to the president of Wilmington College (Wilmington, Del.).

Dr. Ross came to Lynn in 1999 as associate dean of the Eugene M. and Christine E. Lynn College of International Communication, where he facilitated installation of its state-of-the-art broadcast journalism curriculum, studios and equipment.

Dr. Ross also served as director of special projects, director of development and vice president of institutional advancement before being named chief operating officer (COO) in 2004.

As COO, Dr. Ross initiated and oversaw completion of Lynn's long-range strategic plan with the aid of the late Dr. George Keller, noted higher education strategic planning expert and author of Academic Strategy: The Management Revolution in American Higher Education. The long-range plan, titled Lynn 2020, provides a blueprint for developing Lynn University over 15 years. Six years into Dr. Ross' presidency-and as the university celebrates its 50th year-many of the plan's major initiatives have come, or are well on their way, to fruition (see "Key Achievements" page).
Dr. Ross earned his B.A. degree in English in 1994 from Colgate University and his M.A. degree in Liberal Arts in 1997 at St. John's College (Annapolis, Md.) He received his doctorate in higher education leadership and policy from Peabody College of Vanderbilt University. His dissertation topic was Bridging the Gap: A Multi-Case Study of the Adoption and Implementation of Instructional Technology in Higher Education.
He has served on the Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County's board of directors. He is currently serving on the Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors as treasurer, the Advisory Panel of the Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County, the Gulf Stream School Board of Trustees and the Millennium Campus Network Board of Directors. He is also the current Sunshine State Athletics Conference President.
Join Boca Raton's premier networking organization! For the November 7th meeting, we will be meeting in the Terrace Restaurant, across from the Grande Ballroom at Woodfield Country Club in Boca Raton and begin at 12:00 noon and run until 1:30 pm.
A buffet luncheon will be served during the meeting for the cost of $20.00 for members and $35.00 for non-members. To RSVP or find out more on becoming a member, please contact Michelle Clubb via email at MClubb@Koolik.com.

Award Winning Single Story Custom Home in Foxe Chase - Delray Beach, Florida!

$1,495,000

Extraordinary single story custom designed residence with bright open plan in the serene yet centric setting of Foxe Chase. Boasting 4 Bedrooms plus home office or convertible 5th bedroom, 4 full baths plus guest / half bath, family room, breakfast room, huge porch overlooking secluded expansive private yard with rare heavy canopy of hundred year mature live oak trees, dramatic cathedral ceilings with rich wood trim and skylights that bring the outside in, custom designed details everywhere, large formal dining room, gourmet kitchen, Jerusalem stone flooring throughout, custom built ins, oversized three car garage with custom built ins and storage room, 1.38 acre lot with incredible views and room to expand everywhere!

The architect's principal intent was to integrate the home to the beautiful natural landscape as much as possible and live intimately with it, since from the beginning it was the natural landscape that he fell in love with when he bought the property. To that end, extensive use of glass brings the outside into the house, and through the use of the same Jerusalem stone on the floor inside the home as well as outside, it makes it purposely more difficult to distinguish the outside from the inside. Views of the beautiful landscape from inside the house are amplified by glass not only at eye level but also from above through the sloping windows which allow you to see the canopy of the huge trees and feel a greater kinship with them.

Noble materials that they are, wood and stone were extensively used which, in addition to being beautiful, make maintenance an easy matter, the stones having been sealed. The same holds true for the landscaping, with the use of easy to care indigenous plants throughout.

The home was designed around the landscape and not a single oak tree was disturbed, although seven palm trees were removed and replanted elsewhere. One of the main landscape design criteria also was to block the views to the neighbors as much as possible, and, indeed, views towards the neighbors are almost nonexistent from anywhere inside or outside the house.

Boca Raton Executive Club Update

Last month's Boca Raton Executive Club meeting was a great success; the featured speaker was one of the communities most distinguished professionals; Clifford Viner. Mr. Viner shared his experiences as an accomplished business leader, magnanimous philanthropist and professional sports owner with the prestigious professional social networking organization.

President of the Boca Raton Executive Club and Boca Raton realtor, Elliot Koolik is proud to announce that Congressman Ted Deutch will be the featured speaker at the April 4, 2012 meeting held at Woodfield Country Club in Boca Raton, Florida.

The Boca Raton Executive Club presents a unique opportunity for local business leaders to enhance their professional network and become enlightened on the latest political developments direct from Washington, D.C.

Join us April 4th as Congressman Ted Deutch brings us up to date on the legislative landscape locally, nationally and globally during these critical times. Congressman Deutch serves Florida's 19th district in the House of Representatives. His priorities in the 112th Congress include strengthening the health and financial security of America's retirees, creating economic opportunity for South Florida families, and advancing the security interests of the United States, Israel, and our international allies.

Ted has quickly established himself as an energetic advocate for the South Florida community. An Assistant Whip to Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, he was recently highlighted in the Washington newspaper Roll Call as a young, rising voice in the House Democratic Caucus, and the Forward newspaper named him one of America's "Top 10 Jewish Politicians to Watch in 2010."

Despite his relatively short tenure in Congress, Ted has hit the ground running with several legislative initiatives. The New York Times recently highlighted the Preserving our Promise to Seniors Act, his legislation to improve retirement benefits for all Americans and protect Social Security, for its comprehensive approach to strengthening our nation's most successful domestic program. Ted's commitment to protecting the hard-earned benefits of America's retirees and ensuring seniors have access to quality Medicare benefits led him to join the House Democratic Seniors Task Force.

A member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and a lifelong activist in the pro-Israel community, Ted is an established leader on Iran's illicit nuclear weapons program.

During the 112th Congress, the Iran Transparency and Accountability Act, his legislation to expose sanctionable business in Iran, was incorporated into a larger, bipartisan package of sanctions. As a Florida State Senator, Ted passed the nation's first Iran divestment legislation and empowered Florida to divest over a billion dollars from Iran's energy sector.

In the State Senate, Ted also authored and passed legislation to reduce smoking in Florida and fund critical health care programs, including cancer research. He quickly became known as a tireless advocate for Florida's retirees by securing funding for a new, state-of-the-art seniors center in Delray Beach and fighting to protect seniors' access to long-term health services. His work has been recognized by organizations such as the American Cancer Society, the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare, and the Florida Education Association. Ted's passion for service has earned him the prestigious Harry S. Truman Scholarship and the James and Marjorie Baer Leadership Award from the the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County.

Ted Deutch, 45, was born and raised in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He is the youngest son of Jean Deutch and the late Bernard Deutch, a World War II veteran who earned a Purple Heart during the Battle of the Bulge. After graduating from Liberty High School in 1984, Ted went on to study at the University of Michigan and the University of Michigan Law School. Ted and his wife of 19 years, Jill Deutch, moved to South Florida in 1997. They live in West Boca Raton with their three children, Gabrielle, Serena, and Cole, all three of whom attend Palm Beach County public schools.

NATURAL REMEDIES FOR CONTROLLING PESTS

When it comes to the controlling of pests in the home and garden, there are a number of ways you could choose to accomplish your goal. One is to use smelly and often toxic sprays and chemicals to get rid of the bugs from around your home. In most cases today, however, homeowners are aware of the danger this can pose to the health of residents in the home. Fortunately, there is another option to controlling unwanted guests in your home and garden. A few natural remedies for controlling pests, particularly insects, will be explained here.

You probably are not aware of the pest-controlling attributes of aluminum foil. There is no complicated or unexpected feature of the common household object, but bugs obviously do not enjoy running into a scrap of metal as they dig through the soil. Therefore, all you need to do is mix strips of foil with your garden mulch. This will not harm your plants in any way. You can also toss a few mothballs into your flowerbeds to keep cats, dogs and rodents away. Black pepper is another one of the useful natural remedies for controlling pests without using chemicals in your garden. Sprinkle flour mixed with pepper around your plants and the bugs will no longer be so eager to feast on your plants.

As for inside your home, you may have a bug problem due to the tempting cat or dog food dishes left out. A simple solution is to place a ring of baking soda around the dish. It will not harm your pet, though the bad taste will not have them tempted to eat it anyway, and the bugs will lose their appetite as well. Vinegar is another of the natural remedies for controlling pests that you can safely use in your home. Fill an old jar halfway with apple cider vinegar. Punch holes in the lid so fruit flies tempted by the scent can get inside, but not back out.

These simple solutions are great ways to help control the pest problem in your home without using harmful chemicals that can be dangerous to pets and children. Now, instead of reaching for the bug spray or calling the exterminator to rid you of your uninvited insect guests, you can deter them naturally. Use these natural remedies for controlling pests to maintain a healthy, bug-free home. For more information on how to control pests, naturally visit: http://eartheasy.com/live_natpest_control.html.

HOME STAGING ADVICE - PREPARING TO SHOW YOUR HOME

Having an open house is a great way to give potential buyers an opportunity to get acquainted with your home, but it can also be a nerve-wracking experience for you as the current owner. So many people feel ill-equipped to make their homes appealing to potential buyers that they hire professional stagers to make their homes more marketable. While it's easy to understand why people will go to such great lengths to make sure that their homes have as much market appeal as possible, it's also relatively simple to stage it yourself and make it more appealing without spending an arm and a leg to do it. Here is some expert home staging advice.

A good book will hook you with the very first sentence. An open house is much the same. You need to do your best to hook potential buyers with your curb appeal. This could mean everything from making sure that your lawns are mowed and in good condition to repainting your house trim so that your home doesn't look dilapidated. It is clear that curb appeal is an important aspect of selling your home. Chances are that if a potential buyer doesn't like the way the exterior or your house looks, they won't bother to come inside.

The interior of your home is obviously important, as well. A potential buyer needs to be able to see him or herself living there. That's why it's important for your home not to scream, "This is my house!" at every turn. An excellent piece of home staging advice is to minimize accessories and accents. You want people to see your home, not your design preferences. Painting the walls a neutral color helps, too. That way, the potential buyers aren't overwhelmed by your favorite colors and can imagine the room in their own favorite color palette.

Obviously, you want to make sure that your home is as clean as possible when you invite potential buyers in. The sight of a giant dust bunny can so distract a potential buyer that they can only think of this dust bunny when they think of your home. You don't want to distract the buyer from the beauty of the home itself, especially not with such a negative item. With a little paint, a little elbow grease, and some good expert home staging advice, you can have your home ready for an open house in no time.

This article is brought to you by Elliot Koolik for Koolik Group Realty. Koolik Group Realty is a family-owned residential real estate company which specializes in the buying and selling of luxury real estate in Woodfield Country Club in Boca Raton, FL, as well as areas of Delray Beach, FL and other prime South Florida locations. Whether you are looking for a luxury home in Woodfield Country Club, new home construction, vacation homes or retirement properties, Koolik Group Realty has the property for you.

Boca Raton Executive Club Hosts Share Ross At Woodfield Country Club

Share Ross is best known as the former bassist for platinum selling all female rockers, Vixen. From a musical background and an education at Berklee she cut her teeth on the Minneapolis jazz scene before performing in every continental state in the US. She scraped up extra change working as crew and sailed the Caribbean for six months surviving a hurricane at sea. She had two back operations and kicked a hospital morphine habit. All of this before the age of 21, and before launching a successful career as bassist for the platinum-selling rock band Vixen. Join us November 2nd for our next Executive Club meeting featuring Share Ross.

These days, Share Ross rocks audiences with “Unleash Your Inner Rock Star,” a rock n roll ride with inspiration and stories to connect everyone. Before that she was a session musician for people like Helen Reddy, The Coasters, The Drifters and several jazz big bands. Raised in Minnesota by a wonderful father and a very musical mother whose six brothers and sisters all played multiple instruments as did Grandma and Grandpa which resulted in wild jam sessions every time that side came to visit. Eventually, Share chose bass after being well schooled on piano and messing around with guitar. She attended Berklee College of Music in Boston as a bass player and composer.

At one of her session gigs in Los Angeles, the guitarist for Vixen, Jan Kuehnemund saw her playing and gave Share her phone number. A couple of months later, Share called her up hoping to connect with Vixen and meet other people in that scene. Funny thing was, she called on the very day that Vixen fired their bassist. A few weeks later, she was firmly ensconced in the band and shortly thereafter, the band was signed to EMI Records. Vixen toured heavily, playing an average of 320 gigs per year. Eddie Money, Bad Company, Deep Purple, Ozzy Osbourne, KISS and The Scorpions were the acts that brought Vixen out on tour with them.

Share was asked to be part of the ‘super group’ Contraband and the band rehearsed and recorded a bunch of cover tracks. It was at this time that Vixen realized there was some bad blood between their manager and their record label. Vixen discovered they no longer had a record deal by reading about it in Billboard magazine when the then-President of EMI announced he would no longer work with any artists or bands managed by Allan Kovac. After Vixen, Share went on to become an award winning songwriter with her husband, Bam. Their song, Sparkle Star won the Song of the Year in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest. She was also honored to win Best Female Guitarist two years in a row in Los Angeles.

Enter: Reinvention. Realizing that she by removing limiting beliefs about herself she could do anything, Share began a life long pursuit of launching careers and reinventing herself. Most notably, in the knitting craze that swept the nation in 2003, Share learned to knit. Within a year, she had secured a publishing deal with Stewart, Tabori and Chang, part of the Harry Abrams group for her knitting book, Punk Knits which features her designs and all of the models are her rock n roll friends in Hollywood.

In 2007, she studied options trading and to this day, trades iron condors, butterflies and other income spreads. Currently, Share pursues a raw vegan lifestyle and is the host of three online video shows:

1. A music news show - Rock n Roll TV - http://www.rocknrolltv.net./

2. A satire news show - Nearly The News - http://www.nearlythenews.com/

3. A Netflix movie review show - Add 2 Q - http://add2q.mevio.com/

After joining Toastmasters and winning numerous speech contests, she has realized her passion for sharing her message. She wants you to release your inner rockstar and become anything and everything you've ever dreamed of!

Boca Raton Executive Club Hosts Renowned HR Professional, Motivational Speaker, Author & Former Notre Dame Linebacker, Marvin A. Russell

The Boca Raton Executive Club will be hosting Marvin A. Russell at the Wednesday, October 5th meeting held at Woodfield Country Club in Boca Raton. Executive Director of the business networking organization, Michelle S. Clubb stated: "We are looking forward to hosting such a compelling international leader, HR professional, motivational speaker, author and former Notre Dame linebacker as our keynote speaker for October. We are especially looking forward to learning more about Mr. Russell's world of 3E LeadershipTM (Become the Essential, Exceptional, and Ethical Leader); which has inspired and motivated individuals across the country."

International leadership and human resources professional and collegiate national football champion Marvin A. Russell recently announced the release of his new book: Linebacker in the Boardroom: Lessons in Life and Leadership, published by Outskirts Press. Russell's philosophy of leadership goes beyond football, beyond sports and beyond the world of corporate life to provide readers with the personal inspiration they need to reach the excellence and accountability necessary for success in any area of life.

After growing up in a small Pennsylvania factory town, Russell went on to graduate from the University of Notre Dame, earning his National Championship football ring as a linebacker for the Fighting Irish. From there he travelled the world as an HR executive strategist and talent development specialist and later as a much sought-after leadership consultant to C-Suite executives and those in the boardrooms of multi-billion dollar corporations. Along the way he molded and evolved his own lessons in leadership from the multitude of experiences - both successes and failures - and key global events in recent history (such as the civil rights movement, 1968 Olympics, and the war on terror).

"My lessons in tenacity and perseverance and hard work can help anyone be successful in their own lives," writes Russell, who has pared down these lessons to the easily grasped concepts of 3E LeadershipTM and Finding Your Impact ZoneTM and reinforced with thought-provoking principles he refers to as Marvisms.

His 3E LeadershipTM philosophy and approach defines and demands Essential, Exceptional and Ethical attributes in our leaders. It is a model for behavioral competence that outlines the game-changing fundamental tools needed to transform anyone into a high performer. Your Impact Zone are those points ripe for an individual to differentiate themself and make a distinct and unique impact on others and the world around them.

Readers will find that Linebacker in the Boardroom is relevant from both a personal and a professional perspective, regardless of one's age, education level, or professional standing. Whether a member or leader of a business work team, community-based organization, an athletic team or a religious group; whether a senior executive of small or global corporations, a college graduate just beginning a career in the corporate world or public sector; a student or embarking on a career change, one can benefit from Marv's easy-to-follow road map to attaining successful leadership qualities.

Linebacker in the Boardroom is available on-line through Amazon, Barnes and Noble, http://marvrussell.com/events-media/, and at http://www.outskirtspress.com/bookstore/9781432775575.html for a maximum trade discount in quantities of ten or more.
