The Boca Raton Executive Club Rings in the New Year with Filmmaker, Grace Shafir-Reiss!

The Boca Raton Executive Club celebrates the New Year with its members and guests Wednesday, January 9th along with filmmaker, Grace Shafir-Reiss, a person who truly understands the value of giving back and is grateful for a second chance at life.

Grace has been featured on Today, CNN, Fox, Good Day NY, Family Circle magazine, and has spoken at Harvard, Columbia, Duke business schools, Leadership Forum, Committee of 200, National Middle Schools Association, and International Women’s Forum. She has also written and produced a kids environmental musical. In 2011 she was awarded the Soroptimist Award for volunteerism.

Grace had a successful small company when she decided it was time to make a difference. Her first documentaries gave girls positive role models, including Sandra Day O’Connor, Rosa Parks, Hillary Clinton, Maya Lin, Diane Sawyer, Beverly Sills, and more than 200 other outstanding women. The documentaries were endorsed by National School Board, Urban League, and Girls Inc. They were followed by Champions on Wheels, the story of world class wheelchair tennis athletes, who twice performed at WCC. Champions on Wheels was shown nationally on PBS and won the Barbara Jordan Award for Best TV Documentary.

A surprise diagnosis helped her change direction. Grateful for life, she decided to make a documentary to alert others that colon cancer, the second greatest killer of both men and women, can be prevented. It is also the top cancer killer of non-smokers. Working with WPBT, Universityof Miami Sylvester, Cleveland Clinic, MD Anderson, Colon Cancer Alliance, and courageous survivors who were willing to share their stories, Surviving Colon Cancer premiered on November 8th and will be offered to PBS stations nationally
in 2013.

Grace and Bob Reiss have five daughters and three young granddaughters.

Like his father, Dr. Kevin Ross took leadership of the university at a young age: 33, having held numerous administrative positions in educational institutions, including Lynn. Early in his career, Dr. Ross served as admissions officer and associate director of admissions at two independent schools, The Hill School (Pottstown, Pa.) and Avon Old Farms School (Avon, Conn.). The long-range plan, titled Lynn 2020, provides a blueprint for developing Lynn University over 15 years. Six years into Dr. Ross' presidency-and as the university celebrates its 50th year-many of the plan's major initiatives have come, or are well on their way, to fruition (see "Key Achievements" page).
Dr. Ross earned his B.A. degree in English in 1994 from Colgate University and his M.A. degree in Liberal Arts in 1997 at St. John's College (Annapolis, Md.) Subway Development Corporation's CEO, Larry Feldman to be Keynote Speaker at Wednesday's Boca Raton Executive Club Meeting

Last month’s meeting with Miami Dolphin’s CEO, Mike Dee had a great turn out with over 70 attendees! We are looking forward to our upcoming October 3rd meeting with serial entrepreneur, attorney, lecturer and philanthropist, Mr. Lawrence Feldman.

When you want to build a successful franchise operation, put one of the country’s leading success stories at the helm – Lawrence Feldman. Mr. Feldman brings with him over three decades of distinguished years of franchise experience as Chief Executive Officer of Subway Development Corporation based in McLean, Virginia and as CEO of Subway of South Florida. In addition, Mr. Feldman was co-creator of Hair Color Xperts, a franchise established to develop specialized cut and color salons throughout the country. Previously, Mr. Feldman served as the CEO of Strategic Franchise Solutions, a sought after specialized consulting firm, designed to assist entrepreneurs in bringing their business dreams to the marketplace.

A lawyer by training, his fast-track government career included Legislative Counsel to Congressman Stewart McKinney of Connecticut, Minority Counsel for the U.S. House of Representatives, Banking Committee’s Subcommittee on Economic Stabilization and Assistant General Counsel to the Full Banking and Currency Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives, in Washington, DC. He then followed with a bold entrepreneurial move by opening his first Subway location in the Capital Hill area, as an absentee investment. He then added franchise development contracts for Washington, Virginia, Maryland and Delaware. It all culminated for Mr. Feldman in the creation of Subway Development Corporation of Washington, listed today as one of the country’s leading franchise operations, by Entrepreneur Magazine. This year Mr. Feldman will be celebrating over 35 years in the Subway franchise business as well as approaching the opening of his 1200th franchise restaurant in his Northern development territory with an additional 280 restaurants in South Florida.

A 1999 Ernst & Young “Entrepreneur of the Year” nominee, Mr. Feldman continues to receive awards for his business and philanthropic endeavors, including winner of the Washington Business Journal Philanthropy Award for Small Business and the Smart CEO Magazine Award for Excellence in Philanthropy. Mr Feldman and his wife, Diane were recently honored as the recipients of the Ruth and Norman Rales Humanitarian of the Year Award.

In addition to serving on the Board of Directors of several business, educational, civic, religious and philanthropic organizations, Mr. Feldman is also a lecturer at numerous schools, colleges and universities and advisor to entrepreneur’s and start up companies in the U.S. and abroad.

Join Boca Raton’s premier networking organization! Meetings are held in the ballroom at Woodfield Country Club in Boca Raton and begin at 12:00 noon and run until 1:30 pm. We will be meeting in the Grande Ballroom!

A buffet luncheon will be served during the meeting for the cost of $20.00 for members and $35.00 for non-members. To RSVP or find out more on becoming a member, please contact Michelle Clubb.
